Adding a Link to a File

Besides adding links to other web pages, you can also add links to files you have uploaded.  Common file types you might want to link to are .pdf, .jpg, and .gif.  You must be signed in as the administrator in order to edit any pages (including adding links to text or uploading files).

  1. Browse to the page where you would like to add the link.
  2. Click the "Edit" button for the content area where you would like to insert the link.
  3. A text editor will appear on your screen.  Scroll inside the text editor until you find the place where you would like to add your link.
  4. If you would like a word or phrase to be a link, highlight that word or phrase with your mouse.
  5. If you do not highlight a word or phrase, the CMS will use the web page address as the link text.
  6. Click the "Insert/Edit Link" icon at the top of the text editor.  This icon looks like a globe with chain links at the bottom.
  7. A new window will open in front of your browser.  Click the "Browse" button to select a file you have already uploaded, or to upload a new file.
  8. You will now be able to view the files you have stored for use in the CMS.
  9. Browse to the directory where your file is stored.
  10. If you have not yet uploaded your file, you can do this now.
  11. Click the "Browse" button to select a file from your local computer to upload.
  12. After you have selected your file, click the "Upload" button to upload it into the current directory.
  13. Select the file you would like to link to by clicking on the file name.
  14. You will now be returned to the link window
  15. Click the "OK" button to add the link and return to the text editor.
  16. When you are finished making changes, click the "Update" button.
  17. You will be taken back to your page, but now your link will be included on the page.
